Michael Carberry implying that Robinson should never have been allowed to play for England and that once a racist always a racist.

Suspect Carbs is not a fan of young Oliver.

he got sacked by Yorkshire aged 20 - given the arrogance about cricket in that part of the world, i'd imagine there was more than one person waiting and willing to turn him over.

Thing is Dandy, I reckon some hacks have a list of these sorts of tweets that promising stars have made and they wait for the call up/debut to leak them.

There’s no way someone went ‘oh, he’s making his debut today, I know i’ll trawl through all of his tweets right now and look for something controversial to undermine him.’

It was ready and waiting to go

I wonder if we can get 'sledging' recordings of the Aussies against the WI , India and Pakistan. A few of today's commentators would be out of a job I recon.

What a joke.

I’ve not actually seen what he said, but he was a kid when he said it and if there can’t be forgiveness when people apologise, we might as well all give up.

Whoever dug up the old tweets needs banning - I assume it’s a crappy newspaper hack. Should be banned from cricket grounds…and from breathing.

I hate social media

Dr Matt 3:15 Mon Jun 7
Re: First Test - England v New Zealand at Lords
If Robinson remains banned then Overton would also have to be banned.

Anyone from the England team, Yorkshire, Kent, Sussex, Somerset and last Winter’s England Lions would also have to be banned by association.

You are probably completely correct. Worried about how it reflects on them more than anything else and just covering their own backs.

And it's a very good point about context. it was just a silly ignorant naive kid on social media rather than in some sort of specific forum led by certain points of view

Surely all that was needed was 'I was a stupid kid and this doesn't represent me as an adult, a decade on. i distance myself from these comments and life has taught me they were wrong and offensive.' Same for the powers that be. Not opening up an investigation.

The passage of time makes things look a lot worse due to shifts in thinking. Look at all the outcry over how hateful 'Friends' seemingly appears to a modern young audience with the passing of 20 years. Just the same way 'Love Thy Neighbour' hadn't aged well 20 years on.

Well done to Oliver Dowden for putting his head above the parapet, no doubt the left wing will call him a racist and a homophobe.

Shame Joe Root hasn’t grown a pair of bollocks and defended Robinson, I thought Yorkies were supposed to be tough?

Pa Lavender: Hey ma, I've got a bit of a suspect surname. Shall we call, the lad something masculine, like Ian maybe, just to mitigate the gayness?

Ma Lavender: No, Pa. He looks a right bender to me, let's call him Guy, so's everyone is clear.

Young Guy: Sounds good to me, cos I'm going to be a massive knicker-wetting drip, who nobody will have ever heard of except for a butch common lad called Robinson. Rough trade rule, yay!

The cunt.

He said, or the gist of it was, 'these are horrible tweets and are unacceptable. However they were made a long time ago by a very young man. If we refuse to accepted the possibility that he has changed, what's the point of us all asking people to change?

Surprised the MCC haven't brought up historical racist remarks by Fiery Fred Trueman, who during a dinner in Barbados, Trueman is said to have ordered a local dignitary, the Indian High Commissioner: "Pass t'salt, Gunga Din".

They’re probably more worried about the fact that there’s no ethnic minorities in the team at the moment so it looks doubly bad for the ECB! We don’t even have our stolen South African or New Zealand players in the team right now.

If he’d been posting on an alt right group or they’d exposed some neo nazi past, he’d have something to answer for. Bit not a couple of stupid tweets from a teenager. Social media want about when I was a teen but I’d never get employed anywhere if stuff I said in jest was held against me know.

I really feel for him as this will always follow him now. It’s hardly a secret WhatsApp group making racist comments about your colleagues

It’s so silly hailing him over the coals for something he tweeted as a teenager 9 years ago.

Ridiculously heavy handed response. Had he done it in the last few years as a fully mature adult then fair enough. But this is just dumb.

And honestly, who trawls peoples historic posts from 10 years ago just to ‘expose’ people’s past wrongs? It’s just tragic.

I would absolutely love one pundit to just turn round and say ‘you know what, these were stupid, inappropriate tweets made by a young man a long time ago, done in misguided humour but it’s total bollocks that he can get punished for it now and it’s not relevant to him playing cricket today’

And whoever leaked this on the day of his debut instead of perhaps when he got called up is a total bellend
